SPORTS
The field of sport, in the professional area as well as in daily activity, shows that women have unequal opportunities of progress from early ages on. The study of this section is going to measure the impact that gender mandates have on women and men’s healthy and it is going to analyse the rate of participation of ones and the others in sports.
Apart from paying attention to the level of involvement of women in the field of sport in Santiago de Compostela, we will investigate the unequal distribution of power and the capacity of decision-making in matters of the resources and the sport infrastructures of the city.
For the time being, this section does not have all the needed information to allow an in-depth analysis. Nonetheless, we show a proposal on indicators and premises in order to guide future researches and to analyse the existing inequalities in the city drawn from the research and make them clearly visible.
Healthy practices
We point out the need to evaluate the imbalances by sex in the time dedicated to health sports, regulated sport and non-regulated sport according to age, level of education and residential area (urban/rural). Furthermore, there is a need to study the level of participation of women according to their age in clubs or sports federations of the city.
Participation
It is essential to investigate the gender gap in top-class sports in the city, as well as the participation in grassroots sports in the local clubs or federations.
Power and decision-making
We recommend analysing the imbalances between women and men in areas of power in regulated sports and in bodies specialized in health sports (Leisure and free time managing companies).
