Cultural area

The existence of gender inequalities in the cultural area is a result of several factors. On the one hand the imbalances in the use of time between men and women conditioned by the reproductive work influence cultural habits and make them different. The access to the cultural offer is therefore not equitable. On the other hand it is necessary to focus the attention on the creation of culture. Apart from the existing imbalances in the professionalisation of women and men in this area, there are also inequalities in the working conditions which affect ones or the others. In the cultural area there are different fields of specialisation and some of them are traditionally masculinised (like music, audiovisuals…) and others feminised (like dancing). Regarding the occupation of decision-making positions, the glass ceiling is remarkable due to the barriers which hinder women from achieving positions of power.

For the time being, this section does not have all the needed information to allow an in-depth analysis. Nonetheless, we show a proposal on indicators and premises in order to guide future researches and to analyse the existing inequalities in the city drawn from the research and make them clearly visible.

Lifestyles

It is considered important to investigate about gender inequalities in the time dedicated to the consumption of cultural activities, taking into account the age, educational level and residential area (urban/rural).

Participation as creators

In this section we recommend to carry out a study of inequalities between women and men who are cultural workers according to their wage. We also consider necessary to dividing it by subareas of cultural production: music, literature, cinema, graphic arts and performing arts.

Female presence in decision making areas

In this section we point out the need to evaluate the imbalances in leadership positions of cultural organizations, bodies or associations.
