Xohana Torres Award
From the 1992 to 2011 the Local government of Santiago de Compostela convened every year the Xohana Torres award, an annual call which helped to reward many investigation works and essays (humanistic, social, scientific) about the history and the role of women in Galicia.
In Black Against Violence Campaign
The aim of the awareness campaign “In Black Against Violence” is to promote and make the rejection of the citizens towards male violence visible. It was developed on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on 25th November.
Guide to inclusive language
The Department of Equality and the Information Office for Women of Santiago developed a guide to inclusive language for the use in public administration.
Promotional Material of Women’s Terrain
To promote the project TM in the different establishments which participate, the Department of Equality provides different materials which are handed in the moment of signing the list of commitments and good practice.
Collectives and associations
In Compostela there are several collectives, associations and bodies which work actively on gender equality in different areas: feminist thinking, empowerment of women, vindication of diversity, etc.
Compostela Equality Diagnosis
The diagnosis on gender inequalities in Compostela wants to be the frame for the municipal actions in the development of equality policies. The research is set up by a quantitative section of information analysis and a qualitative section based on a participatory process.
Compostela in black
It is a collective action against male violence, which counted on the participation of more than 300 commercial establishments and different social agents in Compostela. It managed to dye the city in black during the week from 19th to 25th November, as a sign of mourning and pain for all the women who suffer from violence.

Given the importance of the hotel and catering industry in Compostela’s economy the Department of Equality, Economic Development and Tourism carried out a study about the working situation of female workers in this sector.
